About The Society
Founded in 1959 through the efforts of Dorothy Marks McKelvey, local historian,
the Berea Historical Society is dedicated to serving the Berea area through the
collection, preservation and exhibit of the evidence of the history of Berea and
Middleburg Township, along with the interpretation of that evidence to children
and adults.
The Historical Society sponsors the activities of the Mahler Museum & History
Center, including tours by school children, special exhibits, events and the
displays of collections of historical memorabilia. The Society holds monthly
meetings that provide programs of historic interest for members and guests. Also
available are exhibits for schools and public occasions as well as speakers and
traveling exhibits for local groups.
Funds are raised through projects, donations and membership dues. Membership in
the Society has reached 400 and all members receive the award winning quarterly
publication,
The Enterprise. Membership is open to anyone interested and willing to assist in achieving the
vision. A person becomes a member upon payment of dues.
Our appreciation goes to all the volunteers and the
Berea
Historical Society Officers
who help in so many ways. There are many opportunities for volunteers. Regular
meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month, September through May
except where noted.
